Our Family Has Grown!!! Meet Fritz

It's true..... Fritz has come to live at Parkway and we are not sure who is happier about this, him or the residents! This little ball of fur has wiggled his way into just about everybody's heart.
He spends the day wandering about, visiting residents, being totally spoiled and of course, lounging.  I realize this could be the job description of other SNF Staff members but Fritz takes this SERIOUSLY!

Please stop by, bring a dog treat or two, and welcome our newest family member.  You'll be glad you did!

Parkway Resident Wins Miss Golden Years Pageant in Salt Lake City

Video Courtesy of KSL.com
Rhea S., a resident at Parkway Health Center was very nervous about competing in the Miss Golden Years Pageant hosted by the Utah Heath Care Association but staff and residents convinced her she could do it. She spent several restless weeks pondering what she should wear, what she should say, how she should do her hair. Forgive me for saying that none of that seemed to matter. Rhea's personalilty is a beacon in a storm. She is a friendship magnet full of life that seems to attract everyong to her. And that is obviously what the judges saw also.
Rhea has a wonderfully supportive family that were in attendance to cheer her on. She enjoys working on the computer, singing, and when her eyesight was better she really enjoyed doing calligraphy and handiwork.
On stage the emcee, Deb from the Utah Health Care Association, asked residents a few questions to let the judges get to know them a bit better. When Rhea was asked what advice she would give the youth of today she said, "When you give someone a piece of your mind, make sure you have enough left to get along with." Bringing lots of nods of agreement as well as laughter at her wit from the audience.
Rhea accepted the crown from the outgoing Miss Golden Years, Virgina B., another resident at Parkway Health Center. This does make one wonder what is in the water at Parkway and, who would like some!!

Therapy Merriment...

Princess Peggy, another famous graduate of Parkway Health Center Therapy Department!
We would call it work but there is way too much laughter going on in there!

Who says you can't play basketball in the house? Two points!

Martin, one of our graduates said, "This is the best therapy I have ever had and the food is great too!"

JOHN RAMAGE NEW PARKWAY PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT!

John Ramage may appear quiet and unassuming at first but his experience, expertise and unsurpassed people skills make him a perfect fit with our new Therapy Team. Many of you may recognize his name from his college football days playing for BYU. Others will recognize him as a former assistant coach at Utah State and at the University of Wisconsin. At Parkway we recognize him as John, Man of Mystery, Keeper of the Keys and, most importantly, an AMAZING Physical Therapy Assistant. “John just seems to have a knack for getting patients to reach new levels in therapy.” said Mike Wood, Director of Therapy. “He is personable, compassionate and sees the big picture of each patients individual need.”

John and his wife Cathy have 6 children ranging in age from 23 to seven. They have adopted three of those children from Romania and the 2 youngest from China. He enjoys all sports, camping and woodworking. John earned a BS from BYU, an MS from the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Provo College with his PTA.

Parkway Health Center invites you to stop by and welcome John as well as several more members of our new therapy team. There is an excitement and energy in the air in our therapy department that makes Parkway THE place to send your patients for their full scope of therapy needs!

Country Fair Brings Out Family, Friends and Lots of Fun!

Parkway Health Center hosted it's first annual Country Fair this last weekend and I think it is fair to say...WOW! It was AMAZING! We had well over 300 attendees enjoy a wonderful lunch, wagon rides, face painting, a pie eating contest, a beautiful quilt show by award-winning Nina Grimes, fun entertainment and the most popular event....Gold Fish Racing! Residents, Family and Friends enjoyed the beautiful afternoon watching and participating in all of the fun. We could not have asked for better weather after such a sketchy week of rain and snow.

We could not have possibly made this happen without the help of some of our wonderful Home Health and Hospice Agencies.

A Big THANK YOU to Alpine Home Health and Hospice, Freedom Home Health, Summit Home Health and Hospice, Sunbrook Home Health and Hospice and Utah Home Health. These companies made donations for raffle prizes, painted faces and manned booths for us. We really could not have done it without you!!

And what would a Country Fair be without a wagon ride? A special thank you to Derk Palfreyman for bringing the horses and wagon and treating everyone to a wagon ride.

Everyone ooohed and ahhhed over the milk can lunch cooked by our very own Richard Petersen. It was an aboslute treat! Thank you Richard!!

Please enjoy the pictures and let us know what you think! And if you are in the neighborhood, stop by and visit!

PLEASE.....Help us solve this mystery!! (and come to the Country Fair on Saturday!)

I arrived at work this morning to an extremely disturbing sight! SOMEONE had wasted an excessive amount of very valuable, high grade toilet paper to decorate my door. I also received some interesting phone calls last evening asking me if I had Prince Albert in a can. Of course I don't! That would be illegal. Callers also wanted to know if my refrigerator was running! All of this happened in connection with our Resident Slumber Party in celebration of National Nursing Home Week and our First Anniversary!

While this event is worth celebrating...clearly the fun may have gone too far. Those involved in this incident were even brazen enough to leave a picture of themselves....masked of course, to conceal their identity....
If you have ANY information that can help solve this crime, PLEASE call Gena at Parkway, 801-465-9211.....and while you are at it, feel free to pick up some tickets for our Big Country Fair this Saturday 12-3 PM.
